Irrigation systems in Montana

Irrigation ready for both drought and frost

In Montana we install irrigation systems for houses in Kosharnik and Mala Kutlovitsa and in nearby villages such as Nikolovo, Blagovo and Dolno Belotintsi. We agree the travel costs from Sofia with you in advance.

We build the whole system with one team: a zoned design, sprinklers for the lawn, drip irrigation for beds, shrubs and trees, a controller and a pump for the well — and then maintenance every year.

  1. Automatic irrigation

Sprinklers for the lawn, divided into zones and run by a controller.

  2. Drip irrigation

For beds, shrubs, trees and slopes — the water goes straight to the roots.

  3. Water pumps

Pumps for wells and pressure systems — selection, installation and servicing.

  4. well cleaning

We clean the well so it gives water for irrigation all season long.

  5. System maintenance

Spring start-up, adjustments during the season and preparation for winter.

How we work

From the on-site visit to the first automatic watering

  1. On-site visit

We come to you in Montana, look at the yard and the water source and hear what you want to water. We agree travel costs in advance.

  2. Project

We take into account the terrain and slope, the soil and grass mix, the sun and the available water. The design is usually ready within 2 weeks.

  3. Installation

We lay the pipes and fit the sprinklers, valves and controller — cleanly and within the agreed deadline.

  4. Setup

We set up each zone separately to suit the plants and the conditions on site.

  5. Year-round maintenance

Spring start-up, seasonal adjustments and winter preparation — on their own or together with care for your yard.

The same two-person teamWe handle every system in Montana personally — from the on-site visit to the first watering.
Local conditions

Irrigation in Montana — what to know

The last frosts here usually come at the end of March, and the first ones in the second half of October. In between is the system’s season: we start it up after the last frosts and drain it before the first ones, so the water in the pipes doesn’t freeze.

Mains water in Montana costs about €2.67 per m³ including VAT, sewerage and treatment (ViK Montana, at prices approved by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (KEVR), effective 1 January 2026). According to the 2022–2027 River Basin Management Plan, the town sits above the shallow groundwater body in the alluvium of the Ogosta river, which is in good chemical status. That’s why a well in your yard is often a sensible alternative to mains water — we check how much water it gives during the on-site visit.

Most rain falls in May and June, but long summer droughts are becoming more frequent. The automatic system takes over the watering in the dry weeks, whether or not you’re at home.

Water source

What water to use for your garden in Montana

The water source determines the pump, the number of zones and how much each watering will cost you.

  • Mains water

ViK Montana: about €2.67 per m³ including VAT, sewerage and treatment. Example: 1 m³ a day through July and August comes to 62 m³ — about €166.

  • A well in your yard

Up to 10 m³ a day for watering your own property in a built-up area is free and needs no permit. You notify the Danube Region Basin Directorate before the well is built and register it within 3 months afterwards — free of charge.

  • Rainwater tank

It collects water from the roof and feeds it to the system with a pump. It lowers your water bill and helps where the well gives little water.

  • Pressure and flow rate

They determine how many sprinklers can run at the same time. Based on them, we divide the system into zones and choose the pump — we check both during the on-site visit.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about irrigation in Montana

When should I winterise my irrigation system in Montana?

Before the first frosts — in this area they usually come in the second half of October. We drain the water from the pipes, valves and pump, and in spring, after the last frosts at the end of March, we come back for the spring start-up.

How much does the on-site visit for an irrigation system in Montana cost?

The on-site visit is free only in Sofia. For Montana, the travel costs depend on the distance, and we agree them with you in advance, before we set off.

How much does an irrigation system in Montana cost?

It depends on the area, the terrain and the water source — mains water, a well or a tank. We give you the price after the on-site visit, and the design is usually ready within 2 weeks. For maintenance there is a price list: the spring start-up is €15 per zone for systems with up to 4 zones and €10 per zone above 4 zones, excluding VAT.

What warranty do you give?

We work with materials of Italian and American origin. Valves: 10-year warranty; some materials: 5 years; the rest: a standard 2 years. We set out the scope, deadlines and price in a written contract.

Do I need a permit for a well for watering?

No, as long as the well is on your own property in a built-up area and the water is for your own needs — including watering the property. Up to 10 m³ a day is free. Before building it, you notify the Danube Region Basin Directorate, and within 3 months afterwards you apply to register it — also free of charge. The well doesn’t need a building permit, but it must be at least 3 m from the property boundary.

How much water does an automatic system save?

Up to 60% compared with watering by hand: each zone gets as much water as it needs, and watering happens early in the morning, when the water doesn’t evaporate.

Do you install irrigation systems in the villages around Montana?

Yes — for example in Nikolovo, Dolno Belotintsi, Studeno Buche, Blagovo, Krapchene, Dolna Verenitsa and other places nearby. The full list is further down the page.
