August is the driest month in Plovdiv — with about 31 mm of rain — and the average maximum temperature in July is 30.3 °C. Without water the lawn burns out within days, so in the hottest weeks the system waters every day or every other day — early in the morning, before the water evaporates.
Mains water in Plovdiv costs about €1.91 per m³ including VAT, sewerage and treatment (ViK Plovdiv, at prices approved by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (KEVR), effective 1 March 2026). The Plovdiv Plain is an alluvial lowland of the Maritsa. According to the 2022–2027 River Basin Management Plan, the city sits above the shallow groundwater body “Quaternary – Upper Thracian Lowland”, whose chemical status is rated good. That’s why a well in your yard is often a sensible alternative to mains water.
In Komatevo, Proslav and Ostromila the yards are bigger — there the system is split into zones: sprinklers for the lawn and drip irrigation for the trees and beds. For the green areas between apartment blocks and the yards of new buildings we install systems with a shared controller.

What water to use for your garden in Plovdiv
The water source determines the pump, the number of zones and how much each watering will cost you.
Mains water
ViK Plovdiv: about €1.91 per m³ including VAT, sewerage and treatment. Example: 1 m³ a day through July and August comes to 62 m³ — about €118.
A well in your yard
Up to 10 m³ a day for watering your own property in a built-up area is free and needs no permit. You notify the East Aegean Region Basin Directorate before the well is built and register it within 3 months afterwards — free of charge.
Rainwater tank
It collects water from the roof and feeds it to the system with a pump. It lowers your water bill and helps where the well gives little water.
Pressure and flow rate
They determine how many sprinklers can run at the same time. Based on them, we divide the system into zones and choose the pump — we check both during the on-site visit.

No, as long as the well is on your own property in a built-up area and the water is for your own needs — including watering the property. Up to 10 m³ a day is free. Before building it, you notify the East Aegean Region Basin Directorate, and within 3 months afterwards you apply to register it — also free of charge. The well doesn’t need a building permit, but it must be at least 3 m from the property boundary.
How much water does an automatic system save?
Up to 60% compared with watering by hand: each zone gets as much water as it needs, and watering happens early in the morning, when the water doesn’t evaporate.
