Many yards in the town are on a slope or on terraces. There, water from sprinklers runs downhill before it soaks in, so we divide the system into zones by height and use drip irrigation — both the upper and the lower part of the yard get as much water as they need.
Mains water in Veliko Tarnovo costs about €2.62 per m³ including VAT, sewerage and treatment (ViK Yovkovtsi, at prices approved by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (KEVR), effective 1 March 2026). According to the 2022–2027 River Basin Management Plan, the town sits above the karst groundwater body “Lovech – Tarnovo”, which is in good chemical status. Karst water sits in cracks in the limestone, so how much a well will give can only be known on site.
Summers are hot — an average of 21.8 °C in July, with a record of 41.1 °C — and winters are cold, with –28.1 °C on record. That’s why winterising can’t be put off here: the water in the pipes is drained before the first hard frosts.

It collects water from the roof and feeds it to the system with a pump. It lowers your water bill and helps where the well gives little water.

They determine how many sprinklers can run at the same time. Based on them, we divide the system into zones and choose the pump — we check both during the on-site visit.

Up to 60% compared with watering by hand: each zone gets as much water as it needs, and watering happens early in the morning, when the water doesn’t evaporate.
