With around 500 mm of rain a year, Pazardzhik is among the driest towns in Bulgaria, and on around 35 days a year the temperature is above 32 °C. Here an irrigation system isn’t a luxury — without one the lawn burns out in summer.

The river terraces in the area are rich in groundwater, and according to the 2022–2027 River Basin Management Plan the town sits above the shallow groundwater body “Quaternary – Upper Thracian Lowland”, which is in good chemical status. That’s why a well is often a good source for watering.
The clayey cinnamonic soils around the town absorb water slowly. So the system waters in short cycles with breaks in between — the water soaks in instead of forming puddles.
